Siddha Medicos went on hunger strike

Siddha Medicos of Chennai Government Siddha Medical College went on a day-long hunger strike within the campus on Friday against the the Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University’s decision to withdraw allopathic content from the traditional medicine syllabus. The university had deleted allopathic portions from the undergraduate syllabus of traditional medicine courses this year as it wanted to stop traditional medicine practitioners from prescribing allopathic drugs. Besides, already the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), which prescribes the curriculum and syllabus for courses, has threatened to withdraw recognition for such courses. CCIM also has demanded that asked the university to reintroduce the removed syllabus within 30 days failing which it will withdraw recognition and the state council will be asked not to register students passing out of the university.tnn Caught in melee are 1,200-odd students of siddha, unani, ayurveda and homeopathy courses under the MGR university.
