In a major boost to traditional healthcare, the Central Government has approved ₹166 crore for the expansion of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) services across Andhra Pradesh, Health Minister Vidadala Rajini announced on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister said the move reflects the government’s growing focus on integrating ancient healing systems with modern healthcare. “AYUSH is not just about traditional medicine — it’s a holistic approach to wellness. The new funds will strengthen this ecosystem across the State,” she said.
According to official sources, the sanctioned amount will be utilized for:
-
Establishing three new AYUSH medical colleges in the State.
-
Constructing integrated AYUSH hospitals across six districts.
-
Upgrading 276 AYUSH dispensaries, which includes reconstructing 90 centres and setting up 60 new ones.
The government has also earmarked ₹23 crore for a 100-bed Government Naturopathy and Yoga College in Visakhapatnam, which is expected to begin admissions by the 2026–27 academic year.
Over the past two years, Andhra Pradesh has received nearly ₹249 crore from the Centre to strengthen AYUSH infrastructure — an investment the Minister described as a “transformative step toward preventive and wellness-oriented healthcare.”
The AYUSH department also plans to introduce digital health records, telemedicine facilities, and training programs for practitioners to improve accessibility in rural areas.
“People are increasingly turning to holistic healing and natural remedies. This funding will help us bridge traditional wisdom with scientific advancement,” Rajini added.
With this expansion, Andhra Pradesh is poised to become one of the leading States in India in promoting integrated healthcare through AYUSH.
