Food frauds that prevent weight loss

We often buy food products checking the nutritional label like no added sugar, low fat, fat free, whole grain etc… Well Nutritional label say a lot about the product but does it reflect a fact or a fraud? Lets check few food frauds we often mistake for being healthy

Fruit juices

You may think they are extremely healthy as the label reads no preservative but surprisingly the fruit juices you find in supermarkets does not even have fruits in them. They are loaded with artificial colours and flavours and chemicals so finally you are pouring into yourself ounces of the same sugary water which is responsible for weight gain. It has no fibre or nutritional content like a normal fruit. Better to go for the home made fruit and vegetable juices that pack the healthy fibres, vitamins, minerals and all in them.

Refined flour/ refined wheat flour/ whole wheat

All these names are often mistaken as wholegrain. You may read this label in most of your daily foods like noodles, flour, biscuits, bread and brown bread etc. They are all nothing but refined flour otherwise called ‘maida’ widely used in all restaurants and hotels. It contains a chemical called alloxan that damages beta- cells of pancreas and responsible for diabetes. Consuming maida regularly increases the sugar level in the body, built up fat and cause weight gain.It lacks fibre so responsible for digestive disorders and constipation too.Always go for whole grain products or stick to home made flours which is best and healthiest.

Artificial sweeteners

They come with a label mask of low calorie, good for diabetics, sugar free etc but in real they contain dangerous chemicals like aspartame, saccharine etc that causes increase in appetite, prevent weight loss and even cancer. Natural sources of sweeteners like Stevia and dates syrup are better choices.

Frozen Yoghurt

Though the label reads fat free or low fat it is actually its loaded with artificial flavours, coloured toppings and fat loaded ingredients. Enjoy a plain yoghurt with little honey and fruits, dry nuts as toppings.

Health drinks

Often considered healthier, they are really unhealthy drinks. They are a mix of corn syrup, refined flour, colours, cocoa and sugar. They are the biggest mistake if grab a space in your kitchen shelf. Drinking them regularly prevents weight loss and it has no healthy nutritional value too.. Blend home made multigrain mix, dry fruits and fruits to your glass milk for the ultimate healthy drink.

Read the nutritional label carefully and give your food smarter choice. Being healthy is an achievement too.
