Kuppaimeni – Herbal Remedy for Scabies

Family : Euphorbiaceae.
Actions : Anti-bacterial, Anti-Vatha, Anthelmintic, Expectorant, Diuretic,
Emetic, Emmenagogue.

Siddha Medicinal Uses :

1. The leaf juice or decoction of leaves is prepared and given in dose of 1-2 tablespoon in case of small children and 15 -30ml in case of adults to induce emesis or purgation and hence expell the intestinal worms and mucus from intestine.
2. The juice of leaves is boiled along with gingelly and this is applied externally over painful areas of body.
3. The leaves are ground with salt and externaly applied over skin infections like scabies.
4. The leaves are ground along with manjal and applied externally over ulcers, poisonous bites.
5. The paste of leaves along with lime or chunambu is externally applied over painful arthritis.
6. The leaf juice is externally applied over head ache.
7. The dried leaf powder is bandaged over the bed-sore areas and hence produce an anthelmintic action.
8. The decoction of roots are also used to induce purgation.
9. The leaf juice along with neem oil is applied over uvula of small children.This will induce emesis and eliminate mucus from intestine.
