Puducherry Health Department to Launch Siddha-Based Fertility Clinic, Confirms Health Minister Ma Subramanian

In a significant step blending ancient wisdom with modern healthcare needs, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has announced that the Health Department will soon launch a dedicated Siddha fertility clinic in Puducherry. The initiative, which has already sparked interest among traditional medicine practitioners and hopeful couples alike, aims to make natural fertility care accessible, affordable, and holistic.

🌿 A New Chapter for Siddha in Reproductive Health

The proposed clinic will offer fertility treatments based on Siddha medicine, an indigenous healing system that has been practiced in South India for over 2,000 years. Minister Ma Subramanian, fondly known as Ma Su, stated:

“We are committed to making traditional medicine systems like Siddha a frontline option—not just complementary. Fertility care through Siddha is safe, time-tested, and deeply rooted in our culture.”

The clinic will initially operate as a pilot unit, integrated within existing Siddha facilities, with dedicated OP (Outpatient) slots for couples facing fertility challenges. Over time, a standalone Siddha fertility centre is planned, possibly as part of the upcoming Siddha Medical College Hospital at Gorimedu in Puducherry.

🧬 What Will the Clinic Offer?

  • Customized herbal remedies based on pulse diagnosis (naadi pariksha)

  • Detox therapies to improve reproductive balance

  • Dietary & lifestyle counseling rooted in Siddha principles

  • Couple-based wellness sessions combining physical, mental, and spiritual well-being

Practitioners emphasized that Siddha approaches don’t just treat infertility—they work on the overall reproductive vitality, addressing hormonal imbalance, stress, metabolic issues, and more.

👩‍⚕️ Voices of Hope

For many women and couples, this announcement brings a wave of hope.

Geetha R., 34, who has been trying to conceive for 6 years, said:
“I’ve gone through so many treatments and medications. I’m now ready to try something gentle and traditional. This clinic could be a blessing.”

🏥 Part of a Bigger AYUSH Movement

The Siddha fertility clinic is part of a larger push to expand AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) infrastructure in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Ma Su has earlier launched Siddha hospitals in multiple districts and backed proposals for the All-India Institute of Siddha in Trichy.

Puducherry itself is already preparing to open a ₹50 crore Siddha College & Hospital, further bolstering research, education, and treatment in the field.

📣 What’s Next?

The Health Department is currently finalizing:

  • Clinic locations and timelines

  • Training modules for Siddha doctors focused on reproductive care

  • Collaborations with AYUSH Ministry and local fertility research centers

The first patients are expected to be seen before the end of this year.

🌺 Ancient Science for Modern Lives

In a time when fertility issues are rising and couples seek alternatives to invasive procedures, this Siddha clinic marks a return to rooted, holistic healing.

“Our grandmothers never needed IVF. Siddha fertility care is about balance, not just biology,” says Dr. Lakshmi Velu, a senior Siddha physician.

With science meeting heritage, Puducherry may soon become a hub for natural fertility care—restoring not just reproductive health, but the ancient rhythm of life itself.

🧘 Healing begins where nature and nurture meet. And in Puducherry, that meeting is called Siddha.
