Siddha Medicine kit to ensure normal delivery

The Government department of siddha and homeopathy medicine in Trichy has brought out ‘Amma Magapperu Sanjeevi’ kits launched by former Chief minister J Jayalalithaa for three trimesters of pregnancy, claiming that the set of eleven medicines of siddha can help ensure normal delivery.

Inaugurating the programme at the district siddha unit inside Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH), on Thursday. District collector K Rajamani said that former chief minister Jayalalithaa had introduced it to take traditional medicine to the people and ensure normal delivery instead of caesarian section.

“The kit comprising the siddha medicine for three trimesters has all the information about the properties of the medicines and their effects to improve the health of the mother and the baby. Those visiting government hospitals can make use of the scheme to reap its benefits,” the collector added. Though the kit was launched last year, it was unavailable at several places in the state. Now, the department has refreshed the program and set up a dispensary for delivering it to pregnant women. Going by the data of the beneficiaries of Amma Magapperu Sanjeevi kit, district siddha medical officer (DSMO) Dr S Kamaraj claimed that proper intake of the medicines in the kit would help pregnant women deliver normally.

According to the department data, 227 kits had been distributed to pregnant mothers at Thuraiyur government hospital till November 2017 since its inauguration. Out of these women, 120 had normal delivery while 40 had to go for caesarian section. Asked as to how they could claim that normal delivery was the result of AMS kit, Dr Kamaraj said “Our medicines have proven in our system to improve the health of pregnant women. So, we can claim that the medicines would have definitely made some positive changes in the mode of baby delivery. Yoga exercise also plays a crucial role,” Dr Kamaraj told to Times Of India. The siddha doctors expected allopathy doctors also to recommend their kit which comprised siddha medicines for three trimester of pregnancy and post-delivery. Tamil Nadu Medical Plant Farms and Herbal Medicine Corporation Limited (TAMPCOL) supplies the kits.
