As the summer sun rises earlier each day, a quiet energy is building across India — in parks, schools, office spaces, riverbanks, and even rooftops. From the mountains of Ladakh to the coasts of Tamil Nadu, yoga mats are being unrolled and hearts are aligning with breath.
The Ministry of Ayush, known for championing India’s traditional systems of health, has officially kicked off the countdown to the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2025 — and this time, the spirit is more expansive than ever.
The initiative, called Yoga Sangam, is a call to action — inviting every citizen, institution, and community to join in what the Ministry describes as a “national wellness movement.” The theme for this milestone year is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, reflecting not just personal well-being but harmony with nature and collective healing.
“This is not just about doing yoga for a day,” said an official from the Ministry of Ayush.
“It’s about coming together as a nation — to breathe, to stretch, to connect with ourselves and our environment.”
🌿 What Is Yoga Sangam?
Yoga Sangam is a mass-participation campaign leading up to IDY 2025. Through the official portal — yoga.ayush.gov.in/yoga-sangam — schools, colleges, RWAs, NGOs, corporates, and yoga clubs can register their yoga events, ensuring they follow the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) issued by the ministry.
Already, more than 1,000 organizations across all states and Union Territories have pledged participation. The government expects this number to soar, with over one lakh yoga sessions anticipated to be held on June 21 across the country — from serene hilltops to urban parks.
🧘♀️ What’s in It for Participants?
Besides the opportunity to be part of a historic national effort, participants and organizers who upload their event details post-Yoga Day will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Ayush — a small gesture for a large contribution to national well-being.
The Ministry is also encouraging youth ambassadors, local influencers, and even rural Panchayats to take ownership of Yoga Sangam in their regions, ensuring the practice reaches even the remotest corners.
🇮🇳 A Decade of Global Yoga Leadership
India has led the International Day of Yoga since its inception in 2015, following a UN resolution supported by 177 countries. In the past decade, it has evolved from a symbolic event into a global health movement — and this year, India is aiming to set a new benchmark.
In the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from a previous IDY address:
“Yoga is India’s gift to humanity. It is not just exercise — it is a path to peace, strength, and self-realization.”
