Think Before your drink Soda beverages

Sweetened BeveragesKnown by various names like Soda pop, fizzy drinks, Sparkling water, Carbonated soft drinks etc people include them in their daily routine. Available in market with various brand names each one of us select our own favourites and also get them in family packs or individual bottles. The trend of life and fast moving shedule make us and our kids more addicted and depended on such products. Let us think once if it makes any health benefits and is it safe ??? Frankly speaking such drinks are useless and harmful too.

One of the main reasons for health problems of population is soda drinks. Drinking too much of such aerated drinks lowers appetite which inturn affects the body needs for vegetables and proteins. The story doesnt end here. Serious health problems and life threats are caused if we make a habit of them. According to experts one can of soda contains about 10 spoons of sugar, 200 Calories, 30 – 60 mg caffeine, artificial food colour, harmful preservatives and unhealthy tap water.   1. Obesity : Drinking 300 ml of Carbonated drink per day translates more than 2.5 kg weight gain every month according to a scientific study.
  2. Diabetes Mellitus : Loaded with sugar and calories a can of soda drink daily increases the risk of Diabetes to 85%. With sugar entering the blood stream, Pancreas secrete increased amount of insulin initially and later becomes unable to keep up the normal body’s need for insulin leading to Diabetes.
  3. Increased Blood Pressure : According to experts increased consumption of soft drinks is one of the cause for increased blood pressure in kids teens and adults.
  4. Weak Bones & Teeth : Increased risk of Osteoporosis and weaker bones and teeth in soft drink consumer is seen. Replacing milk with such drinks impairs calcification of bones in kids leading to increased risk of fracture and bone diseases.
  5. Dental carries & Erosion : Soda dissolves tooth enamel, triples incidence of tooth decay. Increased acidity in soda beverages dissolves the mineral in enamel making the teeth week and sensitive.
  6. Kidney stones : Increased quantity of cola drinks may impair mineral balance and cause increased acidity in the body leading to bone corrosion. The eroded calcium from the bones slowly eliminated through urine and form urinary calculi with due course of time.
  7. Heart Burn & Liver Cirrhosis : Over consumption of soft drinks may lead to heart burn and increased chances of Liver Cirrhosis similar to Chronic alcoholics.
  8. Indigestion & Dehydration : Caffeine in soda drinks cause diuresis. Increased concentration of sugar from the kidneys make one more dehydrated.
  9. Cell damage : Sodium Benzoate a common preservative E2111 found in aerated drinks cause serios cell damage.
  10. Health Hazards of Caffeine : Caffeine in aerated drinks causes irritability, restlessness, tension, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heart beat, gastrointestinal disturbance, increased urination, high cholesterol, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, carcinoma, birth defects, effects brain development in child. It also alters moods and create addiction to the stuff.
  11. Health Hazards of Aspartame : A poison seen in fizzy drinks and diet soda, an artificial sweetener which makes the drinks 200 times tastier and sweeter than table sugar. It is made up of three toxins – Aspartic acid, Phenylalanine and Methanol. Aspartame leads to side effects like Brain tumour, Birth defects, Epilepsy etc. When stored for a long period aspartame breaks down into its starting component and serious health issues like cancer.

How to change the Habit :

Simply say No…! There is absolutely no reason for you There is absolutely no reason for you and your loved ones drink this sweet poison. Eliminate Soft drinks from your life.

Alternatives :

Water – Best drink in the world and a much better choice. Make your perfect water more delightful by preparing lemonade or enjoying fruit juices.
Milk – Good for bones and teeth and brain development in kids too. Enjoy a milk with honey or prepare a milk shake or banana shake of it. Top up with cahew, almonds for making it more healthy.
Tea – Herbal Tea, Green Tea, Black Tea are good for enhancing immunity and contains antioxidants which flushes out free radicals from body.
Tender coconut water – If possible enjoy this naturally sterile refreshing drink loaded with nutrients like minerals, electrolytes and Vitamins.
