DFS Launches Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima to Strengthen Health Coverage for CGHS Beneficiaries

Central Government Health Scheme

In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare security for central government employees and pensioners, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance has launched Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima, an optional health insurance scheme exclusively for Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) beneficiaries.

The new mediclaim policy has been introduced to supplement the existing CGHS benefits, offering wider financial protection against rising medical costs. Designed as an indemnity-based health insurance product, the scheme provides coverage options of ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh, giving beneficiaries the flexibility to choose according to their healthcare needs.

A key highlight of Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima is its cashless treatment facility, available across an extensive network of empanelled hospitals. The policy covers inpatient hospitalisation, along with pre-hospitalisation expenses for up to 30 days and post-hospitalisation expenses for up to 60 days. Importantly, the scheme also allows access to AYUSH treatments, aligning with the government’s vision of promoting integrative healthcare.

To make the policy affordable, DFS has introduced co-payment options. Beneficiaries can choose between a 70:30 or 50:50 cost-sharing model, which significantly reduces premium costs. Depending on the selected option, premium discounts can go up to 42 per cent, making the scheme financially attractive for CGHS subscribers.

The policy also rewards healthy behaviour through a no-claim bonus, offering a cumulative increase of 10 per cent in the sum insured for every claim-free year, subject to a maximum limit. Room rent charges have been capped to ensure cost control, with defined limits for both general wards and intensive care units.

The insurance cover will be offered through The New India Assurance Company Limited, and enrollment can be done through designated offices and online channels, ensuring ease of access for beneficiaries across the country.

With the launch of Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima, the government aims to bridge gaps in healthcare coverage, reduce out-of-pocket expenditure, and provide CGHS beneficiaries with greater peace of mind. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening social security and promoting comprehensive healthcare solutions for government employees and pensioners.
