PM Modi Emphasises Science-Backed Ayurveda as Key Pillar of India’s Healthcare Push
Convergence of Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the importance of strengthening science-backed Ayurveda as part of India’s evolving healthcare strategy, asserting that traditional systems of medicine must be supported by research, evidence, and modern technology to gain wider acceptance both nationally and globally.
Speaking at recent public engagements and while addressing key events related to traditional medicine, the Prime Minister said Ayurveda is not merely a legacy of the past but a living, evolving healthcare system capable of addressing modern health challenges when combined with scientific validation.
Mr. Modi highlighted that India is moving toward a holistic healthcare model, where prevention, wellness, and lifestyle management are given equal importance alongside treatment. Ayurveda, he said, plays a crucial role in this approach by focusing on balance between body, mind, and nature.
Emphasising credibility and public trust, the Prime Minister underlined the need for evidence-based practices, clinical research, and standardisation in Ayurvedic treatment. He noted that scientific validation would help integrate Ayurveda more effectively with mainstream healthcare and expand its global footprint.
Referring to the government’s initiatives, Mr. Modi spoke about the strengthening of the AYUSH ecosystem, including the expansion of Ayush wellness centres across the country, increased funding for research, and collaboration with leading scientific institutions. These measures, he said, are aimed at ensuring quality care, safety, and global competitiveness.
The Prime Minister also encouraged the adoption of modern technologies, including digital health tools and artificial intelligence, to enhance diagnostics, disease prediction, and treatment planning in Ayurveda, while preserving its classical foundations.
Highlighting India’s growing reputation as a hub for medical value travel, Mr. Modi said science-backed Ayurveda could attract international patients seeking holistic and preventive healthcare solutions. He added that promoting Indian traditional medicine on global platforms would create new opportunities for practitioners, researchers, and the youth.
Mr. Modi concluded by stating that the future of healthcare lies in the convergence of ancient wisdom and modern science, asserting that Ayurveda, when supported by rigorous research and innovation, can significantly contribute to building a healthier and more resilient society.
