Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital 100th anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, acknowledging its century-long contribution to the preservation, practice, and global recognition of Ayurveda, India’s ancient system of medicine.
Addressing the centenary celebrations through a video message, the Prime Minister described Arya Vaidya Sala as a living embodiment of India’s healing heritage, noting that its journey reflects a seamless blend of tradition, compassion, and public service. He said the institution stands as a powerful example of how indigenous knowledge systems can remain relevant across generations.
Recalling the vision of its founder, Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier, Mr. Modi said the charitable hospital was built on the principle that healthcare should be accessible to all, irrespective of economic background. “Service here is not just an idea, but a lived value,” the Prime Minister remarked, praising the dedication of generations of vaidyas, doctors, nurses, and support staff.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Arya Vaidya Sala, which has completed 125 years as an institution, today manufactures hundreds of Ayurvedic formulations and treats patients from across India and more than 60 countries, underscoring the growing global trust in Ayurveda.
Emphasising the evolving role of traditional medicine in modern healthcare, Mr. Modi said Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to life, focusing not just on treatment but also on prevention, balance, and harmony with nature. He noted that India is witnessing renewed global interest in wellness-based healthcare models rooted in traditional knowledge.
Referring to government initiatives, the Prime Minister spoke about the strengthening of the AYUSH ecosystem, including the expansion of Ayush wellness centres, research-driven validation of traditional medicines, and integration with modern scientific methods. He stressed that evidence-based research and innovation are key to enhancing the credibility and reach of Ayurveda worldwide.
Mr. Modi also encouraged Ayurvedic institutions to embrace modern technology, including digital tools and artificial intelligence, to improve diagnostics, treatment planning, and preventive healthcare while staying true to classical principles.
The centenary celebrations of the Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital were attended by distinguished guests and dignitaries, marking a milestone not only for the institution but also for India’s traditional healthcare sector. The occasion reaffirmed the country’s commitment to nurturing Ayurveda as a globally respected system of medicine rooted in centuries of wisdom and service.
